Respiratory steam inhalation

by Herbs, Etc.

A steam inhalation with essential oils like eucalyptus or thyme clears excess mucus and promotes respiratory health. The bugs in your lungs and sinuses can’t cope as they come into contact with the antimicrobial properties of the oils. If your lungs feel irritated, add essential oil of lavender for a soothing effect.

To prepare a steam inhalation, place a hot pot holder or trivet on a table. Have a large towel ready. Boil 2 cups of water in a large, heavy pot. Turn off the heat. Add 5 drops of eucalyptus or thyme essential oil.

If your lungs feel irritated, add 2 drops of lavender essential oil.

Place the pot on the table. Position your head over the pot. Drape the towel over your head and the pot to keep steam from escaping. Carefully inhale the steam, breathing slowly and deeply. Continue until the steam dissipates. You may repeat twice daily, reheating the same medicated water for the second steam.
